“I’d like to tell you about the coolest dachshund you’ll ever meet. His name is Patron, like the tequila. He is three feet long and a lean 25 pounds. When I bought him four years ago as a puppy, he was the last one of the litter available, and stole my heart right away. He walked right out with a little swagger and laid right down on my purse as if to say, ok let’s go. His huge personality & ego was deserving of his name. He thinks he is the biggest dog out there and struts around downtown Baltimore like he owns it.
What else is amazing is how strong he is. Last year Patron developed a benign cist near his tear duct. It was apparently something that had been filling up for a long time and finally became noticeable. After two failed attempts to simply drain it, they tried an experimental procedure where the cist was drained and then abraised to kill the cells. This was scary because of how close to his eye it was. His sweet little face was swollen for 2 days, so much so that he looked like a bull terrier! Not once did he complain or stop being the same confident dog that decided he was going to adopt me. It has been over a year now and there is no sign of the cist coming back! Nothing keeps this little tank down and he is loved instantly by everyone he meets!”
