In a normal world, knowing that one of the world’s deadliest snakes was on the prowl in a heavily populated area would be pretty scary. But when a cobra escaped from the Bronx Zoo in March of this year, hilarity ensued! Someone created a BronxZoosCobra Twitter account and tweeted from the snake’s point of view. The tweets were clever enough that the account gained more than 230,000 followers… That’s more than BBC news!
Mashable recently released an article featuring popular animal social media accounts (like the Bronx Zoo’s escaped cobra, charming cat Sockington and precious, poufy pup Boo) and compared their fan bases to major media outlets, like BBC, Forbes, and People Magazine. Believe it or not, many of these fictional animal profiles have more followers than some of the most prominent media outlets in the world!
Animal twitter accounts are also popping up all over on a smaller scale. Some of Hartz’ favorite Twitter followers aren’t pet owners, but the “pets” themselves! If you have a Facebook or Twitter account for your pet, give us a shout! We love hearing from our furry friends!
